Ostia is a neighborhood-centric joint with a menu reflective of Chef Travis McShane's approach to farm-to-table, rustic, and lighter Mediterranean fare with an underlying Italian tone.
This Montrose favorite boasts botanical-inspired patios, outdoor-oriented interiors, including casually-chic dining spaces, air-conditioned outdoor terraces, and an intimate chef's table.
Travis McShane is a native Houstonian who grew up on the north side of the city before attending The University of Texas & subsequently The Culinary Institute of America. In 2009, chef met Jonathan Waxman, who is considered one of the godfathers of American Cuisine; This introduction led to Mcshane's start in the culinary world. Over the next several years, Chef McShane worked his way up from extern to line cook and ultimately to the position of executive chef first at New York City’s Barbuto and then at Adele's in Nashville. Following these stints, Chef Travis became Waxman's corporate chef, during which time he oversaw culinary operations and menu development for each of Waxman's restaurants in San Francisco, Nashville, Atlanta, and New York City. The role also afforded Chef McShane the opportunity to travel the world in order to participate in a host of charitable dinners and cooking festivals.
in summer 2018, Travis and his wife Charlotte returned to their hometown with one goal: to open a neighborhood restaurant that embodies the food, atmosphere, and philosophies that most define them. The resulting concept, Ostia, made its Montrose debut in late 2020 as a New American restaurant featuring a menu that is reflective of Chef’s global travels and his culinary education. The menu is comprised of light farm-to-table Mediterranean fare with subtle Italian flourishes.
